While a Champions League spot is certainly on the cards for Liverpool, they will need to be on form to qualify. They've already failed to beat the top six teams this season and are likely to face a few more difficult fixtures. Fortunately, they have a game in hand over their nearest rivals, Tottenham. That could give them the edge in the end, but even if they do win their games in hand, they won't be able to avoid relegation this season.
Having failed to beat Everton in their last two matches, they're not the only Premier League side that are in the doldrums. Burnley are tumbling out of the playoffs, while Watford and Norwich will both be hoping to avoid relegation. There's also a chance that Leicester City can sneak into the bottom three.
While the top of the table is wide open, the bottom three are almost as competitive as it gets. All four of the teams in the relegation zone have had challenging fixtures so far. Nevertheless, they all have a fighting chance of making a surprise recovery. For instance, Nottingham Forest bounced back from a disappointing season, while Leeds won their first game since 2014.
Despite the odds being stacked against them, Liverpool have managed to make a statement this season. They've had seven wins and one draw from their first 15 games. Meanwhile, the Reds have also recorded 24 shots on goal, which is impressive in itself.
As for Tottenham, they've had a decent season so far and are in the running for the title. They've also had a good cup run. One of the reasons for their success has been the resurgence of Harry Kane. He's a good scorer, and has scored more than once in each of the past three Premier League seasons.
